all you did was open the door marked fandom. She's the one that walked through the door in the back of that marked "crazytown"

Now you know what Dr. Frankenstein felt like. And what Bella and Edward Cullen should have felt like.

You shouldn't feel any shame for this. If you hadn't introduced her to fandom then she would've just found another way to let her freak flag fly.

I'm guessing it's probably a phase anyway. In a few years she'll read the stuff she's writing now and laugh at how weird and creepy she was a teenager. I'd be more concerned about her terrible taste in music. Introduce her to some Metallica and see what happens.

So basically you got your sister into fandom but now you're upset that she's settled lower than you on the hierarchy of nerds? lol

sorry to hear you're disappointed, OP, but tbh boyband stalking is pretty fun. I'm not a fic writer (I can't read fic written in english when the speakers don't speak english irl, and I'm only into kpop), but I can see the hype. let her have her fun for now. she'll grow out of it.

This reminds me of that "I learned it from watching YOU, Dad" anti-drug PSA.

My sister internet-stalks this band, and writes weird fanfic about them. I want to tell her how creepy that is- and then I remember that she probably got it from me.

(1 Direction logo thing)

Now I feel so guilty about introducing her to fandom, even though it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

(I never wrote about real people. Or stalked them in any form)
Why can’t she just enjoy Anime like normal people (*sarcasm* mostly)

How is she stalking them? Like stalking, stalking, contriving reasons to run into them, trying to become facebook friends with the stalkee's relatives on the off chance that that will yield extra information about them? Is she sending them copies of her fic?

Or is she like reading gossip magazines and following their public twitter accounts? Because the latter is pretty much par for the course for a lot of non-crazy, non-creepy fans.

As long as she doesn't really think that two of them are romantically involved, don't worry, OP.

*shrug* If it bugs you that much, have a chat with her and be like, "so, there's fandom, and there's creepy stalking-town. You should stay away from the latter," and then just hope she grows out of it.

I agree with the other commenters, she will probably grow out of it. I started with Band RPF, too.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-05 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
There is an enormous difference between writing RPF and actually stalking someone. If she's sitting at home behind her keyboard and not standing outside Harry Styles's house, I think she's going to be okay. Don't exaggerate and make her seem like a psycho just because you don't like RPF.
