Adorable Things Your Parents Say

(Anonymous) 2013-06-04 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
My mother seems to think that brothels still have dance halls to entertain male guests before the, ya know, business.

Also she calls anything beyond closed-mouth kissing on TV "soft-core porn". It makes me smile.

My mom likes to call things "pornographic" too. It's hilarious.

I love watching TV with my mom because she's a very vocal watcher. She makes noises when she's squeemish about something, and tends to chatter in a very lovable way.

For example, we were watching an episode of Once Upon a Time back in the first season, and there was all the Mary Margaret/David drama going on, and she said a couple of times "She (Mary Margaret) just needs to put on a coat. She always wears tiny sweaters and it's night! it's cold! "

(I tweeted this to Ginnifer Goodwin who seemed to appreciate the thought, haha)

My mum's same with the soft-core porn thing. She still tells us to look away if it so much as looks like someone is going to kiss.

I think it's sort of cute how my my mom likes NCIS and has called Gibbs a "very handsome man" on several occasions. She totally has a fandom crush.

My mom says the same thing.

I was watching a Linkara's review the other day, my Mom who barely speaks English and cannot understand it by ear came in and asked with her usual tone of wide-eyed childlike amazement which sounds very adorable but is hard to convey: "Wow, he's LOUD. Why is he yelling so much?". I laughed out loud because that was very close to my own first impression of Linkara XD

I've said this before, but one of the cutest and funniest things my mom has ever said was when we were watching the Common Law finale. When Wes and Travis were smiling at each other at the end of the episode she said, "Kiss him!" (She has no idea what slash is and generally doesn't think characters are gay unless it's explicitly stated. She doesn't usually root for kissing scenes either; she feels awkward watching them.)

My mother seems to think "crap" is more vulgar than "shit".

On Boston Legal, mom was rooting for Shatner's and Spader's characters to get together.

It's hotter than a road lizard.

The devil is in the details.

Everything she says on my fb profile.

Everything. Also right now she's convinced she knows who took a missing $500 from her work. The woman who took her pen without asking.

When I couldn't help but share this with facebook my mother commented on my post, without a hint of self-awareness, "Yep, and I am still fuming...day two...I am keeping my eyes on her. I think she knows something is UP because she is "eyein" and "smilin" with a perplexed facial expression. Hmmm???"

My mom used to say 'Wrath of Khan' when she meant 'Wrath of God.' She seriously didn't realize she was doing it until I pointed it out to her.

My father would get very protective when it came to any kind of sexual content on teen-oriented shows, like when there would be a "very special episode" where two characters talk about "going all the way" or something. (He didn't seem too worried about what else I might be exposed to through any other kind of TV programming.) Rather than expressing concern over the particular issue, he'd just say "This is a very stupid show and you shouldn't watch it." It was hilariously transparent.
