Skype Question

[personal profile] biohazardgirl 2013-06-04 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have been using skype instant messenger for various fandom communications. Starting last week it began freezing my taskbar every time I logged into it. It's not the hugest hassle in the world, but it's kind of annoying that I have to sign out to use anything on the taskbar. It's weird because everything else on the computer is completely functional, I just can't use the taskbar while skype is logged in and hanging out on it.

I have an ASUS PC running on vista if that helps anything?

Sorry I know this comm isn't tech support, I was just wondering if any of you had this problem too and if so what you did about it other than just letting it be a part of your life.

Are automatic updates enabled? It may have updated and that's why it started freezing. You should be able to download the previous version and there won't be any more problems. A lot of software still has Vista-compatible updates that only work on really new computers because a lot of people buying new PCs hate Windows 8 and have been loading Windows 7 and Vista on them.

That is probably what it is because it was working before. Jeez I don't feel like vista is that old talk about planned obsolescence. . .

I can't even remember the last time I sat in front of a Vista computer, *but* I think the solution to your problem involves the preferences or options, setting Skype to minimize to the System Tray, instead of staying open as a program on the Taskbar? I am about 85% on this, sorry, and I can't recall where to go to get to it anymore (Android and various flavours of Linux are making everything but XP a happily distant memory--I still have to use XP for work). So I'm not sure if this will help/is helpful? But it might be worth a shot?
