She's betraying me and our ideals, how am I the shitty friend?!

And she's mutilating her body to meet some imaginary standard forced on us by men. What kind of a friend would I be if I let this happen?

It's not my delicate sensibilities she's offending, it's the whole nature of our movement. We need to be above this, we can't reinforce the idea that all we are is a pretty set of tits for the men. If feminists crumble and allow that poison into them, where will it stop?

You're the shitty friend because you're not being supportive of her decision.

HER. DECISION. Not yours. Not anybody else's. Hers. You would seriously tell her what she's allowed to do with her own body because you think she's betraying your gender? Are you a sociopath or just a garden variety hypocrite?

Have you even talked to her about this? Have you asked why? It seems like you're just making huge fucking assumptions about why she's getting implants, and pumping out a lot of indignant groupthink buzzwords. Feminism isn't some monolithic entity, everyone in the movement has their own ideas of what constitutes feminism and you have to respect that. You're not respecting that, nor are you respecting your friend. If anyone's betraying anyone, you're betraying her and you should be ashamed of yourself. Disgusting.

Yes, her decision. Assuming she's not caving to social pressure to meet a standard of beauty we have both renounced.

No I haven't talked to her about it. That's the purpose of this thread. SHOULD I talk to her? That was my question.

I AM respecting my friend. I'm worried she's not respecting herself.

Still her decision, and no you shouldn't. From what you've said it sounds like she's aware of any reasons not to and has decided to anyway. Therefore she presumably has reasons that outweigh anything you would say.

On top of that, this person would probably get super judgey and dogmatic and only end up hurting the poor girl.

Has she told you that she's getting the implants specifically because she desires to be a "pretty set of tits for the men"? Because you do realize there are other reasons to get implants other than that, right?

DA. I'm curious, what reasons (other than reconstructive surgery after mastectomy)? I don't know anyone who has taken implants and the ones I see in magazines are invariably of the 'looking pretty for the men' variety.

Looking pretty for the ladies. Looking pretty for oneself. Correcting what one sees as a proportional imbalance.

Exactly.

You realize that those reasons all boil down to 'Because that's what our male dominated society has decided is attractive', right?

tbh I'm a lesbian. I'm pretty flat chested (especially for my height), and I don't look all that proportional.

I've been strongly considering implants for years... for the benefit of my partner. who is a woman.

so yeah. just sayin'.
