They were moving towards Rodrigo's eventual death. The overall plot was about the family falling apart and turning on itself. It was a little slow, I'll grant you that, but it was delicious. Nuthin' better than watching beloved characters mentally breakdown and resort to sleeping with their siblings.

I'm gonna write a fic.

Lu and her husband reconcile and live happily ever after.

Cesare and his boo live happily ever after.

Micheletto's boo comes back and they live happily ever after. And Sean Harris gets the Emmy he so clearly deserves.
