Sugar is bad for you too, I don't get why stevia would be worse if you ate it in moderation (like you're supposed to be doing with sugar to begin with)

It's been used in Japan in everything for a long time now

Strictly speaking, it is better than sugar, calorie-wise, but I already consume my sugar in moderation - mostly because I stay away from artificial sweeteners, which are a ton sweeter than plain sugar and desensitize your tastebuds. When you can't taste how sweet things actually are, you tend to consume more sweets.

Not to mention, when you have something really sweet, your body expects calories for it to burn, so you end up craving calories anyway with no-calorie sweeteners. Sort of defeats the purpose, no?

I probably wouldn't mind it in Japanese foods, since their "sweets" tend to be a lot less sweet than ours anyway. American sweets are ridiculously over-sweetened. There is no point in adding sugar substitutes in something that already has sugar in it. It's fucking absurd.

Well they use it mainly in soft drinks and processed foods, same way the American food industry uses artificial sweeteners and HFCS.

The thing with Stevia that irks me to no end is that a teaspoon/packet is something like 2-3 teaspoons of sweetness.

So I use less. Problem solved!

(Sucralose, though, ugh don't get me started on sucralose. I Can Taste The Chlorine.)
