"Dreamworks is not that high regarding the quality of their animation".

How to train your dragon? Prince of Egypt?

Shark Tale?

I'm not saying they always do good, just that it's a bit too quick to dismiss the whole studio when they *can* do great things if they put their minds to it. No animation studio only does great things.

I know, I know. :D

I actually went to see HTTYD in theaters 4 times, so I'm certainly not disagreeing with you.

Oh, I'm sorry! I misinterpreted your comment...

Glad we agree then! :-)

Megamind is pretty good, too; my favorite Dreamworks movie.

The fight choreography in Kung Fu Panda was better than anything in a movie called "Kung Fu Panda" had any right to be.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It had actual Kung Fu, it had an actual panda - what more is there to wish for ;)

Prince of Egypt is one of the most gorgeous looking animated movies I've ever seen coming out of the US.
And their CG animation is one of the best, period.

OP shouldn't confuse "animation" with "animated movie".

I loved that book as a kid. Bought myself a copy as a teenager. Still love it.

After Man! Awesome.

(Confession: I didn't actually finish reading it, because I was reading it on a website and lost the link. Time to dig it up again!)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-08 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Was it this link? http://www.sivatherium.narod.ru/library/Dixon_3/01_en.htm

Loved the Dougal Dixon "speculative biology" books, never been able to track them all down.

Me too. The only one I haven't read is The New Dinosaurs, which I haven't been able to track down.

But After Man, Man After Man (which is unfortunately titled, but, oh well), and The Future Is Wild are all awesome.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I will be in this fandom with you, anon! (And actually speculative zoology does have a fandom! Just not a lot of narrative output for it....) Though I had major issues with After Man (mostly re: you have these wild speculative animals! And yet the plants in the background are *botanically accurate down to species level* pictures of modern plants! Something isn't right here. )

I've never gotten around to watching The Future Is Now, yet, though! I should do that.

It's not being overshadowed? After Man is incredibly well known and idk the first one that's supposedly over shadowing it but I may take a peek when I can. If anything I'd suggest it would be overshadowed by All Yesterdays.

But it is entirely possible for people to enjoy multiple things and who knows, maybe this "Future is Wild" book/movie/tv show (????) will bring in more people and you can rec them After Man.

At the least I'm now curious about it :P I already have After Man and it's a bit dated, maybe the Future is Wild will also be interesting

[Pic of speculative zoology animal]

I hate how this is so overshadowed by The Future is Wild. Even the supposedly in development by DreamWorks movie about it later changed to be about The Future is Wild. I know DreamWorks is not that high regarding the quality of their animation movies but it would at tell me that someone likes After Man better.

S!B: Does that even count as a fandom thing?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa! After Man! I haven't thought about that book in years, but I used to adore my parents' copy of it. I should really go look it up again.

Blast from the past! Thanks, OP.

After Man is awesome - I loved the whale penguins and the island of bats. Now, Man After Man is quite possibly one of the creepiest things I've ever read.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-08 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
After man was awesome. I should go buy a copy on Amazon or something.

Sorry I don't have anything smart to comment on this secret, but I just really, really wanna thank OP for this secret. I didn't even know - or more accurately remember - the name of this book before this secret caught my eye.

I have very distant memories of single copy of this book at my old and long since closed primary schools class. Dunno why or how it had gotten on bookshelf back there and then, but even as brat I really enjoyed just leafing through that book and enjoying 'pretty' pictures of animals seven years old me wasn't sure if they even really existed.

I guess what I want to say is that I feel absurdly happy and glad to finally rediscover that book of freaky animals from my childhood.
