Dragon Age Origins

I have an urge to play through DAO again, but I can't decide which origin to go with... So! What's your favorite, and why?

Mage, because I love the Tower and flirting with Cullen. :3

Ooo yes, I like Cullen! He's an interesting character -- I really wonder if he's gonna turn out to be a party member in DA3...

I haven't done them all, but I rather liked the dwarf nobility one. It was a challenge being in the Fade with no magic at all, though.

Dwarf Noble or City Elf. Those are my favorites, with the most emotional story bits.

I like the dwarven origins best. Dwarves are adorable, okay?! Plus I find their storylines more interesting than the others. Out of noble and commoner I prefer noble, but both are exciting and well written.

Damn, Alistair is lookin' mighty fine in that icon of yours! *cough* I mean, yes! I was debating dwarf commoner myself, but it seems like a lot of people like the noble route -- I might go for that one, thanks!

Thank you, thank you.

Dwarf commoner is definitely good too! You could play both, see which one you enjoy more then go with that playthrough. (If you wanted you could always come back to the other later.)

I actually loved human noble :< Maybe I'm biased because it was my first.

I like it because it was a very classic heroic knight story. On to revenge! (And maybe finding my brother, but mostly revenge!)

It was my first too, haha. So yeah, it'll always be special... I love it even more thanks to Awakening, and the relationship with Nathaniel (my absolute favorite DA character).

I've done every origin except dwarf noble and Dalish elf, and human noble stands as my favorite so far. There's just so much you can do and places to explore in the Cousland castle, you get your dog, you get all kinds of interactions, you get a booty call with the gender of your choice, and your mom fights like a boss when shit gets real. What's not to love?

Wait, wait...booty call? WHY HAVE I NOT FOUND THIS YET! Okay, other than my impatience, why?

It was the best discovery I ever made, haha. After the convo with your mom, just hit up the study and talk to either Dairren or Iona before you find Fergus, get yourself a little sumthin' sumthin' for the night.

That's actually my favorite DA:O storyline. I didn't think it was done badly at all, in fact, I have to say the Dragon Age series - Dragon Age 2 in particular - has got to be the most progressive mainstream game I've ever played. I can appreciate a game, at any rate, that does have rape but doesn't try to make it sexy or whatever. Really loved it.

Female city elf, since even though it was a little gratuitous, I thought it was well done. Plus, I just really liked the twist of it being a woman who loses her husband in a situation like that, but is "saved" and thrust into a position of power and authority.

Likewise, female dwarf casteless is pretty awesome for a lot of the same reasons.

They also both have one of the most solid senses of identity to me, and it's nice that they insert the player directly into the scummier and darker parts of society that we know suck, but ultimately don't have a connection to outside of those origins.

IMO they also have the most detailed "homecomings". Dwarf noble had a really neat premise, but man the return to Orzammar was so disappointing.

Nobel Human. MY PARENTS ARE DEAD (Spoilers). It's a classic.
Plus, Tim Curry being hammy.

Yes!

I really wanted to like Arl Howe just for that, but ugh. Arl Howe, why are you such a bag of dicks!

DAO!!! However many shiny new games, I just keep soming back and back to this. Something about it is just so amazing and infinitely replayable. I've done like 6 playthroughs and something different suprises me every time.

The human mage origin was my first and will always have my heart (hello, cool conection to DAII!) but IMO the most interesting origins are the dwarf ones, especially the dwarf noble. So much rich backstory and world building.

I would say the least interesting is probably the human noble because it's kind of cliche and safe, but then the whole storyline of DAO is cliche, it's the dialogue and characterisation you play for, so yeah.

Conclusion: play all of the origins through to at least Ostagar, you won't regret it!
