Yep, being-online-wise, I'm ridiculously out-of-sync with this community (or any fandom-activity) as a whole. I'm the last to comment on almost anything I decide to comment on/to.

Believe me, you don't really want to know my reasons. You study for years to make your childhood dream true (in my case, being a librarian), you manage to get a job that sounds awesome (yay, archaeology! (yep, I've been there too)), and after a couple of years you realize that:

1) the moment when Indiana Jones muttered "Why did it have to be snakes?" was a subtle allegory about academic research in general;

2) jobs/occupations are complex things, and you can't like every task one job entails, especially if that job is closely intertwined to another unrelated job - and you will end up doing the task you hate the most for a long-long-long time;

3) for a somewhat introvert person, there aren't much more soul-crushing occupations than working in the local equivalent of "help desk";

4) being employed by the government sucks.

Combine all of this with a serious case of "Oh, my god, there are archaeologists *everywhere* I look!" (One of my colleagues corresponds my favourite radio station, I simply can't escape.), one big dose of money- (or its lack) induced bitterness, and one big dose of unrelated general bitterness, and you get where I am now.

(And you don't have to be a dick to get attention. (Although I admit it's easier that way.))

Thank you for the chance to rant again!

You don't ever need to thank me for the chance to rant! I love to hear about things from the other side. It's why I don't make a very good troll, tbh. I get into an argument, then I end up saying "Well...yes, everything you say is reasonable. I see your side of the debate." So we have a totally sane conversation where we both learn things, and I have trolled no one. >.>

It's kind of embarrassing, actually. The only thing I get batshit insane about is asexuality, really, and I mix up all the terminology and make an ass of myself, so I end up more angry at myself than anyone else, haha.

Anyway, I can totally get why you would have extreme amounts of bitterness towards archaeology at that point (and omg, it is really hard to spell that word. wow). I feel similarly towards pharmacy (as I've already stated) and towards the free sample business, since I am currently a free sample lady, and it sucks, but everyone thinks it's the "coolest job ever omg!!!"

No. The uniform is uncomfortable, you have to stand in one spot for 5+ hours (which gets soooo boring if it's a slow day), my boss is a bitch, and to top it all off, we aren't allowed to eat any of the samples! It's "stealing from the company!"

So yeah. I get where you're coming from, though my issues are shorter-lived than yours, since I didn't spend years learning to hand out samples. :/

There should be more trolls in the world like you: more sane conversations while everybody thinks they're trolling, and not realizing otherwise only after.

Unfortunately I can get batshit about a lot of things (hello nationalism, government and hipsters!), and unfortunately I often only realize how utter moron I was after I proceeded to show how stupid I can be if I put enough effort in it. (A bit like you, really.) But in the case of archaeology, I know (hope) my bitterness is as temporary as extreme.

Terminology is one of the main reasons why I refuse to engage in conversations about any type of sexual orientation, or related topics. Every discussion I saw ended up being a semiotic debate. (Especially about asexuality. I should define myself somewhere on that scale, but I look at myself, and look at the words/labels, all of them, and realize that it's not worth the hassle, at least in my case.)

"Coolest job ever!" One of the phrases I hate the most. And ther's this one sapect I'm luckier than you: my boss is amazing.

Free sample business? I have to admit I tend to avoid anybody who offers free samples of anything. If they're kind enough (and they often are, you know, probably that's why you are such an unsuccesful troll), I almost always end up buying.
