I like that interpretation. For me, due to the way the song is written, the earlier verses somehow give the impression that the titular "You" is an emotionally damaged person with abandonment issues who wants the other person and tries to make it work but simply can't manage to fully connect. The last verse is the other party's lament after the breakdown of the relationship.
