I agree. The world is not a nice place, maybe checking out now is OP's best solution.

Does it have to be fandom related? Because there's one particular thread of the xkcd forum that's been silly, thoughtful and friendly, with only a couple of hints of flames.

The post is http://fora.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=101043 . It's a discussion of this comic http://xkcd.com/1190/ which has been updating one an hour since March 25.

This is a good site to view the progress of the comic so far: http://geekwagon.net/projects/xkcd1190/

If you ask me, the problem with SJWs is that they're right almost as often as they are wrong.

But when they're wrong? They're wrong in such a rude, arrogant, hypocritical, borderline-offensive, and often plain ridiculous way that no one will take them seriously when what they're saying is right.

And even when they're right, they're still assholes about it.

Basically, I think they're often right, but their assholery taints the good points they make.

Well...hmm. Blogs like Captain Awesome. Specifically with that blog, I tend to generally agree with what's posted...but I think sometimes they go a little too far, or ignore that something being said is realistic [if badly phrased]. The most recent example I can think of is when they got snippy about Prudence [the advice columnist] saying 'They may run away from you once you tell them you have an STD' [I'm paraphrasing here]. I'll agree, it was a little harshly worded, but it's true. And they pretty much said the same thing shortly after, albeit much better worded.

I agree with many of the points that posters on Tumblr make in relation to SJ issues. What I have a problem with is the mob-mentality and black-and-white thinking that goes along with that for some people. People have a tendency to do stupid, uneducated, offensive things from time to time. No one is immune to this. Deciding that just because someone said or did an offensive thing (and it's not a constant pattern of behaviour) means that they are irredeemable forever and ever is ignorant in its own right. I'm also not a fan of the dog-piling that sometimes goes along with the whole "call out" culture.

The Tough Little Baby Telepath series is pretty great. AU Charles/Erik M-E ratings, Erik is a detective and Charles is a 19-year-old telepath police consultant. I just started part 3 but I'm sure it will be as good as the previous two.

A Terrifically Bad Idea, also Charles/Erik. Charles is a "pet" formerly owned by Shaw who is trained only to please, Erik liberates pets but is attracted to Charles... could be underage depending. I find that kink hot but it's rarely well done. Here it's done beautifully and with nuance.

A couple spn pairings I dislike, Teen Wolf (the biggest one right now), One Direction, The Vampire Diaries (and variations thereof). I don't blacklist *every* fandom I don't care for, but those are the ones I see spammed most often.

Also "ask x a question", x being a specific blogger that gets a LOT of asks. It blocks all those questions they answer.

I'm angry, disappointed, and absolutely baffled. I genuinely don't understand what they're thinking... There's so many people that don't even have Xbox Live, period, and now they're saying that you can't even play RPGs (or any other single-player game) unless you're online once a day?! I want to play games, not watch TV and whatever else it is Microsoft is prioritizing.

I won't be buying it, and I desperately hope that it'll bomb. That's the only way of sending a message to these people. Feels like fucking 1984, man.

And the PS4 doesn't interest me either, what with not being backwards compatible. I don't want to buy games "on the cloud" or whatever the hell they're babbling about -- I want to play the normal games I've bought, dammit. Urgh. Guess I just won't get to play Dragon Age III and all those other games I've been looking forward to.

snakes, gore, vore, guro at the moment, though I did just get a new computer and haven't completely finished redoing it.

But yeah, I have a few people I follow that like to post gore/vore/goru often enough that it really needs blocking [and thankfully they tag it.]

Re: Sad moments in sitcoms

(Anonymous) 2013-06-08 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Sad moments in comedies tend to hit me pretty hard too.

I always cry when I see that one episode of Sex and the City where Miranda's mom dies, especially the part where Miranda is walking by herself beside her mom's coffin and starts freaking out and Carrie rushes up and takes her hand and kisses it and walks along side Miranda. I also always cry a few seasons later when Samantha began managing Smith Jerrod and they go to a hotel event where Samantha's ex Richard Wright is hosting the thing. Richard starts hitting on Samantha, stating she was the best thing he ever had and convinces her Smith is too young for her. To prove to herself that she's too mature for Smith, she goes and has sex with Richard, telling Smith to go home. She feels like shit after having sex with him and when the elevator doors open she sees that Smith had been waiting for her the whole time. She manages out, "I don't know why I keep doing this to myself," before crying and right then Smith takes her into his arms and takes her home.
Damn it, another Sex and the City moment that always makes me cry (this is what I get for watching this show all day yesterday) is when Charlotte is at some singles event and she bumps into Harry, her ex, and is apologizing to him that she was stupid to ruin what they had and that she missed him and he tells her it's not good enough. But then, BAM, he gets down on one knee and proposes to her.
I also always cry at the end of the first season of Drop Dead Diva when Jane is saying goodbye to Grayson because she figures that doing the right thing is going to get her fired. The music and the acting is really well done.
And I just spewed out my guilty pleasure, sappy chick rom com shows.

Oh, I tear up at all the sad/sweet moments between Jim and Pam on The Office. I also cry in the episode where Pam is showing her artwork and basically no one shows up, and at the end Michael shows up and asks her for the price of one of her drawings. It's something I can see my dad doing for me and it always moves me.

I think it would make him scarier.
