That could only have improved the movie. You could get away with the old fake indian (using latino and Mediterranean actors to play Indian and First Nation peoples was called "dirty white" back then, horrible name) back in the 60s (and the 80s movie got away with it under a grandfather clause for the character), but this sort of shit has no place now. Abrams has real problems with race though. I guess that'll help him fit into the Star Wars gig (and so will his obsession with FX, shit storytelling, and everything looking like an ipod store).

Yeah, pretty much.

Although I'm too chicken to look at the damn secret, so I don't really know what I'm talking about.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The keyword is "the past few days".

So....you're basically saying the comm is dying a "slow death" because it's been slow for "the past few days."

You do realize that is an oxymoron, right?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. I'm sure the show has other adult fans or ironic fanfic out there somwhere, but I seriously don't think three people would come here to make secrets.

If they did, that would be a little disconcerting either way.

There is no healing in this series. None. Only cathartic vengeance on occasion.

The was FS works is that case divides the secrets he gets from one submissions post into several equalish parts (apart from the trigger/spoiler days) to post over the course of the week: he puts up a new submission post every Saturday. So if one batch is small, the whole week's posts are all small too.

Also, "slow death"? LOL, dude, it's been about five slow days. Alarmist much?

i hadn't visited that blog in a while; i'm kind of surprised to see this on wtffanfiction

most of the wtf has been about badly written sex and hilarious things, not superfuckingcreepy childrape D:

know the first reaction on places off tumblr to Social Justice is to kneejerk and think there are no valid points being brought forth, but have you seen any points in any fandom that you find logical, or that you could see their point, even if you didn't entirely agree?

It's like 2+ paragraphs of Snape raping a six year old. Don't click the link.

Weirdly enough, no.

without getting explicit, it's harry/snape non-con with snape being super manipulative in what he says to harry, in the kind of language that one would use to bend a child's will to obey (like, guilt trip), plus explicit porn

Bruce was the only Avenger I felt any sympathy for. I may have to check that fic out.

I read a couple of Borgias fics recently. I'm on my way out the door but will post when I return, if anyone is still interested.

I'm currently waiting for Irreplaceable to update. It's Discworld, Drumknott/Vetinari where Drumknott gets kidnapped by people who appear to know a bit too much about his past. It's not brilliant but it's not bad either and I'm just dying for Drumknott/Vetinari stuff over here.

Re: Friend Break Up

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I would have been happy to share stories of a breakup with a friend to help you cope, but I'm not going to help you "take glee in their misery". How fucking gross can you get?

Re: How many of you have made a secret for an obscure fandom just to see if people know it?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
At least 3 times. I mean I don't want to be the "I liked it before it was cool" person, especially because my obscure fandoms are far more likely to be for works created before my birth. As such, I've generally gotten "Never heard of it" or "Oh I vaguely remember that from when I was a kid in the early '80s but I never watched it."

I don't take any glee whatsoever in my ex-friends' misery.

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually have a similar background and thought he was pretty scary because of that in the books. Just the performance combined with the fact that the films don't show him killing people as much just took the scary out. I just felt like he was trying to start some sort of dance craze.

[personal profile] badass_tiger 2013-06-07 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
While the Internet still has the capacity to surprise, I'm not really squicked by it either, yeah. If I saw some of the stuff I've seen in fic or doujin irl, I'd probably be mega creeped out and run off to throw up, but while it's fiction, idrc.

After the two Bubble Guppies secrets in a row, I was very, very nervous about clicking that link.

Re: Anyone become immune to squick

[personal profile] starphotographs 2013-06-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not really bothered by art/text stuff, either. Or live-action movie stuff. (Unless it's really built-up eye trauma of some kind. That makes me cringe.)

And I don't think it's really unhealthy at all. It just... Is. People have different thresholds for stuff.

But, there might be kind of a follow-the-leader effect with internet squick. Some people want to appear more sensitive, others just want to join in the fun of shouting "EWWWWWW!" with everyone else. I think the latter is kind of a natural reaction to being in a group of people who are sharing gross things. It's part of why gory movies are pretty popular.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
What Snape says is so bad and accurate of what is said I almost wonder if the fic itself was written from a survivor, as therapy for themselves? Because that shit hit way too close to home for me.
