Most of the concepts SJW's work with are good, sound concepts for unpacking dodgy ideologies in media. Because most of them are stunted versions of what were originally useful theories. Understanding things like privilege, appropriation, intersectionality, the Bechdel test, trudging, silencing, representation, rape culture, and on and on - these are valuable ideas.

The problems only start when people treat them like so many sticky labels to slap on things as soon as they remind them of one of those concepts. They don't think anything through, and they seldom seem to understand the original nuances of the argument. And then the well is well and truly poisoned. Because now even those of us working irl for a more inclusive entertainment industry just want to roll our eyes and give the finger to the next tool bleating about triggers.
