Yeah, this place is pretty much a cesspit of unrepentant dipshittery (which this thread is a great example of, funnily enough). There are some good posts and fun discussions, and I sort of use it as a fandom digest, but they're not really redeeming qualities.

At least people in the real world just don't even know about half the shit you can get torn up for here.

Unfortunately, "unrepentant dipshittery" is sort of commonplace on the internet at large, which is why I'm not terribly active in a lot of general forum spaces anymore. The only places I've been that aren't terribly angry are game sites with chat - Puzzle Pirates and Pogo.com come to mind. You'd have to find places that are more strictly modded to get away from the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, but even that's hit-or-miss. Sorry, nonny :(
