Depends on the secret for me, but about half the time I avoid the comments too. Sometimes it's just about making and getting the secret out there. And sometimes it's actually something personal that I need to vent and I know the comments will not result in anything positive for me.

I usually comment on my secrets but it's perfectly understandable to be hesitant about the responses. Mine rarely get negative comments yet every time I go to look there's a pit in my stomach.

sometimes I make a secret just for the catharsis of getting it out there, especially if it's a REALLY unpopular opinion, and I won't read the comments on those either

That's probably for the better. Though FS is about getting secrets out there anonymously that you probably would never tell because of the backlash it may get, commenters often don't understand that or respect that and hide in their anonymity and proceed to give you exactly the backlash you did not want...It's ironic really.
