You're not doing it wrong by shipping whatever you like, or not shipping other things that are popular. You ARE doing it wrong for "feeling a sense of dread" that other people will also continue to ship what they like. People are going to continue to ship Steve/Tony and Clint/Phil after Avengers 2, and there's nothing wrong with this. What other people ship doesn't hurt you, or invalidate your freedom to ship what you like.

No, the OP is not wrong to feel "a sense of dread," if those other shippers are bashing certain characters to make their pairings possible. Steve/Tony shippers bash Pepper Potts all the time. THEY and their disgusting misogyny is what's wrong, and trying to rebrand it as "tolerance" and "freedom to ship what you like" doesn't excuse it. All you're doing it making it worse.

If OP is assuming that everyone who ships those pairings also bashes other characters to make those pairings work, then they're doing it wrong AGAIN. Some Steve/Tony shippers do bash Pepper; I've seen it. But plenty of Steve/Tony shippers also ship Tony/Pepper and think that Pepper Potts is made of distilled awesome; I've seen that too. Blaming the ship itself or treating all shippers like character-bashers isn't helping anybody. I'm not the one making anything worse here.
