I have to agree. River's storyline isn't much different from all the weird convolution and retconning every other character in the series goes through, but it's only ever pointed out with her, it seems. Makes me suspicious as to the reasons.

My only theory is that they hate that she's a romantic interest and that's why they pay so much attention to her specifically. I remember Rose got a lot of flack for being a romantic interest, which is apparently omg heresy, but apparently it isn't cool to say "I don't like when the Doctor falls in love with peiple" straight out anymore.

I don't know; I think people have gone off the Weeping Angels to the same degree as they have of River. Retconning being a major factor here, too.

Yeah... Ok, if they touch you you go back in time, but then they just killed Bob; oh wait, that one has ahold of River, why did she not go back in time, and, oh btw, the Statue of Liberty is made of copper, can Weeping Angels even be made of copper?

I was okay with all the retcons with the Weeping Angels until the Statue of Liberty. I just couldn't. My limit for stupid was not only broken, but shattered against that copper colossus.

And that's not even getting into implications of "every image of a Weeping Angel is also a Weeping Angel" when said Weeping Angel is a famous landmark that's had countless images made of it...

Not to mention when the heck is there not at least one person looking at it at any given point in time?

Heh, true...

Honestly, whenever someone goes, "Well, except for the problematic stuff, Moffat's a good writer!" I just rolls my eyes, because, no... no he's not.

He can write extremely intense episodes, but the problem with those are that upon rewatching, the intensity is gone because you already know what's going on, and there's nothing else in the show that captures your attention. I look forward to each and every episode of Doctor Who. I never watch them again.

I think this (outside of issues raised already) is my main problem with Moffat. For me how much I love a series is usually wrapped up in it's re-watch potential, and I'm pretty much never interested in re-watching Moffat era Who.

Like once you know everything that is going to happen some of the episodes are downright boring.

I've seen tons of people criticize it with Amy, the weeping angels, etc. And lots of people are also hella wary of what he's doing with Clara.

Moffat's convoluted plots and love of retconning are a common and major critique of his work. It's not at all just an issue with River.

all the weird convolution and retconning every other character in the series goes through, but it's only ever pointed out with her, it seems.

Actually, one critique of Moffat's writing I see fairly often is how convoluted his writing and plots are in general, not just with River's storyline.
