I am a huge, huge River fan, but even I can see that the only reason I love River and dislike Amy is because Alex Kingston is so badass. River and Amy (and now Clara) have a lot of the same problematic traits, the ones that go to show Moffatt has difficulties writing women, but Alex Kingston owned the role and made it awesome. If it had been a different actress as River, I would probably not stan her as hard as I do.

It's ok to like things and also recognise that they can be problematic.
