I kinda ship it on the show, but I don't think I'd enjoy fic about them. Idk why.

Maybe because the kind of couples that work best for fic is when you have to go "okay, how the hell can we come up with a believable story about them being together? There's so many issues to consider!"

Whereas couples who you can go "how are they gonna be together? Well...easy. They can just kinda decide to" aren't the best for fic. Because what are you gonna write fic about? They don't have any major personal issues or obstacles or complications, and getting together won't change them or reveal them all that much. These kinds of couples have no easy fic fodder in their relationship.

I know what you mean, actually. I ship it, but I don't think I want it to be canon. I love that they're a great platonic friendship, but I just ship it a lot.

I get angry when I read Entertainment Weekly writers write about how much they ship it and want it to be canon. I adore platonic male/female relationships and this one is very well done, so I'm scared that if the producers/writers of Elementary see or hear what the EW writers are writing they may be tempted to make it canon because they think that the EW writers are speaking for all the fans of the show and if the writers back of the show back out of their, "We didn't make Joan a woman just to get Holmes and Watson to date," speeches I will be pretty pissed.

Pretty sure that any time a man and a woman are leads on a show, they're destined to end up together whether or not people ship it.

(Yeah, I know it's an ensemble cast, but they have a very close friendship that's just never ever going to be a romance. But I have to mention them because they're my favourite 100% platonic m/f friendship)

It's kind of funny how before the show aired everyone was losing their shit over the possibility of them hooking up and now I don't know a single person who watches the show who DOESN'T ship them.

I went in not wanting Sherlock/Joan to be canon, I still don't want it to be canon.

I don't! I like them as BFFs. But after the season finale I'd be fine either way ~~preferably if Irene is involved with one/both of them somehow!~~

Shipping != wanting a relationship to happen, you know?

I'd still be really angry if they eventually got together, especially because it's one of the few amazing, non-romantic relationships i've seen between a man and a woman that wasn't a setup for the inevitable, and so well written to boot

but romance and sex is still a lot of fun to ponder and read/write about it

(But reading fic where they do hook up can be fun/interesting. I just really don't want it to be canon.)

for me i think it's just because they're so well defined as loving friends on the show that i just plain don't like seeing their dynamic changed, or seeing it pushed into romance
