da I got frowny-faced over the fact that she has red hair, because the few redheaded elves that there are in canon are long dead by the time of the Hobbit and descended from a different sub-group than the one that she's supposed to belong to.

Elvish genetics are serious business, goddammit

(Other than that, though, I'm glad that she's there to make it a little bit less of a sausage fest.)

Actually, being a Silvan elf, she could have descended from the Avari half of the Tatyar clan, and so be very distant kin with the Noldor. Something like half of the clan stayed in ME, it's not impossible that the redheaded gene could stayed as well.
