Metal Gear Solid V - The extended trailer

Someone please write an essay about this extended trailer, because I'm still in shock about it.

TW: Racial genocide, graphic torture with real-life methods, blood diamonds, murder, child soldiers, gore.

I still want to play. Just... wow O_O Kojima went the whole nine yards to make it clear it will be unpleasant and that the main character took a nose dive in the villain pool after being ~a misunderstood anti hero~ for years.

I'm sorry I can't write you an essay but as you know I have yet to catch up so I feel too ill informed about Big Boss and gang to say much about them. (Though...shit. Even though I've only played Big Boss for one game, it was so hard to see him in this context. It's a far cry from the Big Boss I know, even though I realize he was no saint and things would eventually get ugly. I'm having a difficult time imagining playing as him after some of these scenes, but at the same time I'm intrigued and want to know what the hell is going on. I'm still excited, but there's some dread with that excitement because I don't want to hate the main character!)

So...yea, I was dumbfounded at how gory the trailer was and more than a little disturbed at points. The added footage wasn't easy to watch, and I'm sure it's going to be much worse to watch in-game. (Like I don't cry enough in MGS games? Dammit Kojima!) Metal Gear has always been about war and unpleasantness but this was unprecedented and caught me off guard. Still, I want the game too and I look forward to seeing how it deals with these issues. (They've done a good job in the past, and it seems like they're taking this very seriously. There wasn't one joke or funny bit in this trailer and that too is completely unlike Kojima, so I'm glad they understood it wouldn't fit or be appropriate.)

Ahaha, the "essay" was part in jest. I was just referring to a long comment! :D I'm kind of baffled by everything that happened (yes, I still am). It IS hard to see Big Boss acting like this. Peace Walker foreshadowed... as well as MG1 and MG2. We knew eventually things with thim would terrible. We just had no clue they would be THIS terrible. "Intrigued" is a good word.

Torture usually is a trigger for me, even if it's fictional, but at the same time I sort of need to know what the hell is really happening. So yeah, still playing this. I will probably need an enormous box of kleenex and some xanax, though. I wonder if that's the idea. I want to know how this madness unfolds. The story looks compelling. I just hope they don't get even more grafic than the trailer showed, because I wouldn't be able to cope with it otherwise.

Props to Kojima for making this fairly serious. I don't think the usual jokes and easter eggs would work as well on a game like this. (Or maybe I'm wrong and they're going full post-mo as in MGS2 and THERE WILL BE JOKES, only they'll everything feel even more wrong).
