Roku box?

Does anyone here have one? What do you think of it?

I've been thinking of getting one for Netflix and I've been doing some research but it looks like you have to give them a credit card number just to be able to use it, even if you don't plan on ordering things from them, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Any opinions?

I had to get rid of my Roku box because my Sozin box kept trying to convince it to take over the world together.

That makes no sense if they're not into gaming though. A PS4 is what, $400? A Roku is like fifty bucks.

My old housemate had one. It worked fine and did what it was supposed to. I have no idea how the billing works, because it was my housemate's so I never paid for it.

I hated mine and the credit card policy made me uncomfortable. I also had to register my email address with them and since it was late at night and I was tired, I accidentally used my primary email instead of the one I usually hand out. I got so much spam that I abandoned that account as my primary. And I know it was because of the Roku registration because that was the only time I gave that email out when registering for anything and the spam started the next day.

There are cheap bluray players that have Netflix streaming built in. I got one last summer for $60 from amazon and I can even connect an external drive to it like a Roku. Mine is a Panasonic but these are pretty universal features now and lots of brands have them on cheap players.

Bluray's only for HD though right? I have an old non-HD TV, and what appealed to me about the Roku was that you didn't have to have HD to use it. From what I've seen all the other streaming box things only work with HD.

we have our old bluray on non hd tv. i think it depends on if it has those three pronged red white yellow connectors or not. if it only connects hdmi then it wouldn't work.

You might want to see if you can get a Wii cheap. The main thing I remember about the Wii is that it did /not/ hook up to a tv via hdmi. And I'm pretty sure they'll do Netflix. Might be worth investigating, anyway.
