It is possible to be sad about things that don't actually happen in real life, like you just said about Toy Story. But no, it's still not like Toy Story. Toy Story would be about 10000000000000000000000000000x sadder if Woody didn't have any clue why Andy left him, didn't understand what he was, if he didn't have a single other toy to be friends with, and if he couldn't do anything else but wander around waiting forever.
And you can love something and still think it's sad. They're not even close to being mutually exclusive. In fact, IMO it's kind of hard to think something is sad unless you like it.
