Wesley Crusher was my hero when I was a little kid. He's still my favorite character. IMO, people judge him waaaaaaay too harshly based on the first season of TNG (when I was watching the show, all out of order, I didn't catch any season one episodes for ages, so I got to know his character when he was older).

But I'm afraid to say so. What if people think the reason I like him is because I think I'm a genius who's smarter than everyone else, like him?

Wesley Crusher is mine, too. I'm not sure I even saw season one until very recently because I'm pretty sure I would have remembered beardless Ryker.

Wesley isn't perfect and he can be very irritating at times, it's difficult for adults to care about his coming of age story arcs. But he isn't anywhere near as bad as people make him out to be. He isn't my hero, per se, but I do like him and always have. Maybe it's because I was only a little younger than he was when I watched the show the first time and I liked having someone on board the Enterprise that I could identify with in some way.

My Stargate Atlantis favorites: Elizabeth Weir is my favorite character in the show, but one of my top favorites is Jennifer Keller. Keller gets a lot more hate than Weir, but I love them both.

Keller was adorable and I always hated the flack she got(shipping McShep and liking her was fun let me tell you). I also crack!ship her with Todd the Wraith because of reasons.

Oh man, I have nothing against McShep as a pairing (though Sheppard/Weir is my Stargate OTP), but I steer clear from that side of the fandom mostly because I want to avoid Keller hate. I can't imagine shipping McShep and liking Keller, tbh.

(That is a good choice, I saw them more as bros but I totally digged their relationship)

I preferred it when she got ignored in fic because it could get really nasty when she was there, also the long winded meta's that nearly always ended up bashing her or Weir. I just loved everyone on that show, why all the hate man? :(

Tipper's 'The Black Lake' is a totally awesome gen teamfic featuring Keller. Highly recommended! :D

I loved Wesley when I watched TNG as a kid because I thought it was so awesome that there was a kid on a starship and he got to be an ensign and do cool things. I think he was a character that was a lot easier to relate to as a kid. Re-watching early episodes now, I do have to cringe, but I agree with you that he got a lot better as he went on. Even if he didn't, I don't know if I'd ever be able to hate him simply because I liked him so much as a kid.

Bela Talbot from SPN. I love her. She was the reason I started watching Supernatural and caught up on seasons one and two(they were on season three at the time) but man did she get a lot of hate. Usually along the lines of 'she made Sam and Dean look stupid', because no other character has ever done that. Except you know, every villain, and Bobby, and Missouri, and John Winchester...

This.Bela is one of my favorites and I really hate those arguments. "She's too smart to have on the show,she overshadows the Winchesters and they seem dumb and incompetent! Plus,she too evil to be redeemed!!!!".

Bela was a BAMF and I'm forever annoyed that the fandom was so shitty about her (and Ruby too, season 3 had some great female characters). I'm still hoping that Bela will show up as a demon bent on revenge in a new meatsuit at some point, the way Meg did in s5. If she teamed up with Abaddon too I might even die of joy tbh.

I'll admit I stopped watching at the beginning of season 8, but I've wanted Bela to come back as a demon ever since we saw her backstory and how her tale ended, if they brought her back as a demon? Holy crap I'd start watching again, I would just stay out of the fandom this time.

And agreed Ruby and Bela were both fantastic, hell I liked season 4 Ruby too which was a huge fandom no, no.

I'm not usually afraid to admit to the characters I like, but in the kpop fandom, there are certain idol group members I'm afraid to admit to. (It's KINDA like characters, because they have distinct 'stage personas' and company character concepts)

Like, people hate Leeteuk's guts, whereas I'm over here cooing at him and petting him going "There there dear, sleep is useful, so is food, stop trying so hard to make EVERYONE like you, also your father is dead, he can't beat you anymore, also some of your fans are dicks, the rest will still like you if you acknowledge this". Same for absurdly sincere Christian closeted Siwon, who seems super fake but really is just like that, bless his square little heart and derpy face.

I liked Wesley too, yeah. Same with Neelix. (I also liked Enterprise, and my favourite series is Voyager, so I don't think my Star Trek opinions hit anywhere near 'normal'...)

I highly recommend reading Wil Wheaton's book Memories of the Future about his experience of filming that first season of TNG. I really feel sorry for him since he was so young at the time and got (and still gets) SO much hate from obnoxious Trek fans.
