It may not be a nice thing to say, but sometimes it comes from a place of exasperation. Someone coming to you with their problems and complaints, and you give them advice, which they happily ignore (which, yes, is their right), but when it all goes wrong, and they come crying to you for sympathy? Yeah, sometimes you really just want to say, "I told you, I told you that this would happen!"
