(Anonymous) 2013-06-13 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)Even when I enjoy the original covers more, I always listen to the Glee cover instead just because it's LOUDER and thus easier to rock out to.
I also am only able to keep up with popular music by hearing it on Glee first. whoops /o\

(Anonymous) 2013-06-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)(The comparison usually used for overproduced overloud music is that of a paragraph of text in all one sentence entirely in capitals - that kind of unpleasantness. The text size may not be big enough to get that across here.)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)It makes the song more easily heard in areas where there is a lot of ambient noise, and it's also intended to give the song a fuller sound, but it can cause listener fatigue and eliminates any dynamic changes throughout the piece.
Brickwalling is really just ungraceful mastering in the name of loudness. Radio stations have their own compressors anyway, so volume consistency between songs isn't an issue there like people think it is. I'd much rather have albums properly mastered and have the listener adjust the volume to their liking than have no choice but to have their ears blown out.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-14 01:44 am (UTC)(link)I mainly like Glee´s covers if my favorite characters (Kurt and Blaine) are singing. But also some of their versions are great, like Scubs with all the guys.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-14 04:07 am (UTC)(link)1. Don't feel bad about not keeping up with "popular music." Whatever makes it to the radio tends to be really overrated by the time it gets there. As long as you're listening to music you enjoy, you shouldn't feel bad about it.
2. Why not just turn up the volume on the original? I'm seriously baffled, especially since I'd hypothetically rather listen to the version I like at a quiet volume than the version I don't at any volume.
3. There is no such thing as an "original cover," jfc. A cover is when somebody does their version of somebody else's song. The original can't be a cover, it's the original!
Okay, petty rant over. /lurks back into corner

(Anonymous) 2013-06-14 08:04 am (UTC)(link)Originals are quieter, there are max volumes. It'll always feel like newer songs have more "oomph" since everything's turned way up. Look at the comments above for a better explanation.

And I don't even try to keep up with popular music anymore. If I hear something I like then yay. Otherwise, my popular music listening stopped in 2001 which is a little sad.
