I don't like Chrom/f!Robin much, but I ship the hell out of Chrom/m!Robin.

It probably has to do with the fact that the latter doesn't throw things at Chrom during their supports and actually sounds concerned and, y'know, helpful and friendly and stuff. Rather than 'augh I walked in on you in the bath! *throws soap dish at his head*'

Also, I see where you're getting that from--between Lucina's non-sibling supports with Morgan, Lucina's non-mother supports with f!Robin, the story scenes in general...yeah. The game ships it. But I find them much better with other people. For the supports Chrom/Olivia is nice and just not bothering with supports Chrom/Sumia generally happens and I'm cool with that; my favourite f!Avatar pairing so far is with Inigo.

(It's also an interesting study in shipping dynamics I guess? If you (general, hypothetical you) say you find the story scenes between Chrom and f!Robin shippy but not the exact same scenes between Chrom and m!Robin I'm probably gonna have a bit of a side-eye toward you.)

Iiii should probably stop, I have a lot of feelings about this game and a fair bit of distaste toward their supports with each other in general.

To be frank, I think this game becomes the "Chrom and Robin Show" past Chapter 13, regardless of gender. I actually like the support between the male Robin and Chrom, which makes me all the more frustrated at F!Robin x Chrom. I also am rather annoyed with what shippers make of the fact that the game ships any form of Robin with Chrom blabla "canon" and Sumia massacres.

It does to a degree, yeah. I personally don't mind it very much because they are the main characters after all. And I think if they had to differ the supports, it could have been something like the two of them training or sparring together--but no, f!Robin gets a running gag across several supports of her throwing things at people. Sigh.

I love Sumia. I really can't stand the hate she gets sometimes. Yet another instance of Die For Our Ship, only in its most illogical form because you get to choose your own damn (opposite-sex anyway) pairings in Fire Emblem anyway, no one's getting in the way of anything.

Not sure if you intended this, but you just described F!Robin's support with Lon'qu (the sparring was alluded to, at least. Mainly fig-throwing. Sparring with fig-throwing and poking Lon'qu to check if he forgot his gynophobia).

... I've read your M!RobinxChrom fic and it usually puts a smile on my face?

I did mean that too! Running gag and all. (I personally find her Tiki support the worst, but.) I forgot there was sparring involved, mainly because I was irritated at her for the throwing stuff at him--especially when she apparently snuck into his tent and pelted him with figs while he was asleep.

YOU HAVE oh my gosh thank you. This has been a really weird day for me and I needed that.

My headcanon is that the Robins were like their same-gendered Morgan counterparts when they were kids. Male was a derpy sweetheart, Female was a kind of a well-intentioned sadist. The traits lingered as adults.

I did marry Lon'qu once before and I have to say I liked it for the fact Lon'qu was lampshading how people would take that the wrong way AND THE AMOUNT OF EFFORT SHE PUT INTO FIG REVENGE WAS RIDICULOUSLY STUPID. I do enjoy F!Robin getting her just desserts, aka her Beach Scramble with Gaius-spouse or Hot Springs Scramble with Inigo and Owain as spouses.

Yep.

90% of it is very thinly disguised 'she gets in the way of (whoever, usually f!Avatar) marrying Chrom!' Which is just basic lack of understanding about how supports work. There's still occasional 'why did he marry Sumia' messages.

It's not all bad, though. I once saw a message complaining about the forced marriage between Chrom and Sumia in Chapter 11...because the guy wanted to marry his Avatar to Sumia. 'Man I thought we were bros, stealing my girl like that, come on.' Made me laugh so hard. (Avatar/Sumia is an A+ pairing in my books, but I may be biased because I did it first run.)

Oddly enough, I don't see any hate toward Sumia from Chrom/m!Robin 'shippers; just Chrom/f!Robin ones.

EDIT: If it helps, two of the three people playing the game and not really in the fandom for it have expressed positive opinions toward her (and the third I haven't asked or seen say anything to my recollection). One of them referred to her as 'the cute pegasus knight' and said he wanted to marry his character to her, and the other was torn between her and Maribelle.

Also,LOL at F!RobinxChrom shippers calling Sumia a Mary sue when Robin is probably the biggest mary sue in the FE games.

Man, I just hate that term in general. Any meaning that may have ever existed in it is purely gone for me, since it now means '(usually female) character I don't like.'

The arguments for Sumia being one are the dumbest thing ever, too. 'She's clumsy and that's a flaw for Mary Sues!' No, no she's legit just clumsy; saying you're clumsy and then never doing anything clumsy is a flaw for them. *sigh*

Well, but you had to admit that both F!Robin and M!Robin are kinda sue. Specialy for the self insert part.

I don't use them as self-inserts, since they're the characters with the most unique text in the game. In my opinion, the self-insert thing sorta...vanishes, when you don't control the character really any more than you do any of the other characters--you don't control how they respond to anything, you don't control their background, their personality in any way.

Overpowered? Hell yeah. Can it get kinda grating how the later parts of the game sorta dote on them? I could see where it could, though it doesn't to me. Do I think there's more justification to call them such than any other character? If you have to call any character one, I guess so. (Certainly more so than poor Sumia.) But I still wouldn't personally use the term for any character, and definitely not any canon character.
