Cheers had "Where Everybody Knows Your Name", but that was written specifically for it. How about pick, out of existing songs, a song that fits really well with a particular fictional place (or an entire fictional universe)? It can be focused on one major aspect, or the entire place in general.

The Digital Daggers' "The Devil Within" describes A very well on Pretty Little Liars......lame, I know. but I'm a teenager haha!

Aside from the fact it's about LA and not New York, "Electric Los Angeles Sunset" describes the Watchmen universe SO well to me.

And "The Only Thing I Know" really speaks to the Fringe universe(s?), especially season 4 ("living with your memory is slowing driving me insane").
