Something tells me there's more behind this secret. We don't know the OP's relationship with his family and don't know enough to assume that this is just about the birthday party. But OP, it does sound like you're having a problem with depression.

I agree, there is still much that the OP hasn't told us (like what kind of comment did OP's brother and his wife made) so it is hard to understand this secret fully.

But I hope OP can have a birthday party of his/her own.

Thank you. I was wondering about OP's mental health as well. I know I felt horrible about lots of small things back when my depression was at its peek. Plus, OP acknowledged it's "pathetic" to think so hard about the birthday party. So I don't understand why some people in this thread are bashing them.
