Really? Sure, most of the time alcohol consumption is specifically brought up it's to show the possibly harmful affects, but it's still pretty common to show drinking as something normal, even expected, and people who don't drink at all are seen as prudes or otherwise abnormal. Even when a character gets drunk to the point that they don't remember anything, it's usually played for comedy and portrayed as a minor inconvenience of everyday life.

That's what I mean -- either drinking is comic/normal/"functional alcoholic", or it's the mean drunk beating spouse and children. Rose is a happy funny drunk! and she's letting everybody down.
