And I loved all of it, except for one thing. The Tom arc was just as bad as I remember. Personally, it felt like he just made Jane and Daria act a bit OOC, and he was sort of pointless.

I seem to recall a lot of Daria/Jane shippers came out of the woodwork during the Tom arc. Coincidence? Like Batman, I do not believe in coincidences.

I don't ship them, but I think the fact Tom almost destroyed their friendship is ridiculous. He got bored of them both so quickly, so why was he so important to them.

That happened to me too a little while ago when I got the series collection. Personally I don't see a big problem with the Tom arc or Tom as a character. The only problem was the very end and how they broke up.

Why didn't you like how it ended? I think it was obvious they were too different to continue on with their relationship.

I just felt bad how shitty she got treated when going to see colleges with Tom and his mom and it felt kind of bitter how it finally ended . I agree they were pretty different and some relationships end when both split up to go to college and go on their own paths so it makes total sense.

Oh, yeah. They treated her school in Boston as if it weren't important. It's one of the reasons why I don't like Tom :p

I'm watching the series for the first time and I'm at the point where the writers sunk the Trent/Daria ship. Seeing all the complaints about Tom, I don't really feel like finishing the series though so far the episodes are really enjoyable.

Keep watching! Yeah, the Tom stuff kind of drags. I didn't mind it too much, personally, and still love the whole series. He's not always in focus, and the rest of the time the show's still great. I love the whole thing, and rewatch it regularly.

I wish there had been a couple more of the Depth Takes a Holiday fantastical episodes. The couple they had were kinda fun.
