Well, there's also the other problematic element of his writing. IE, he is really bad at writing.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Well that's a matter of opinion. Not everyone agrees.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone who doesn't want to waste an hour of good, usable time, on a Saturday night certainly agrees. Besides, what are you so butthurt for? The secret-maker said they LIKED the sitcom; most of the commenters here (myself included) are not disparaging the sitcom (I've never seen it), but it does illustrate that Moffat being good at writing soaps and sitcoms, will not necessarily (and does not, in a fair number of peoples' minds) translate into being good at writing SF and mysteries. Or even fantasy (Jekyll).

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I was doing exactly what you feel entitled to do. Responding to a comment. I'm pretty sure that's allowed even if you happen to like Moffat's work.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Subjectivity, look it up.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I'm the one who needs to.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently you are.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so bored of appeals to subjectivity.

I mean, I don't deny that they have some validity, because there are elements of everything that are subjective and response is always in a sense ultimately subjective. But at the same time, I think people are way to quick to use subjectivity as a shield against criticism of anything they like, and at the end of the day, whatever subject you're talking about, there are always objective, fact based qualities at hand that we can talk about and analyze and talk about seriously.

I mean, I'm not saying I'm objectively right and it's gospel truth that Moffat is a shitty writer. I'm saying that whether or not he's a shitty writer is a conversation and a discussion that we can have. Not everything is an absolutely subjective end result of different values, for Christ's sake. In an ultimate sense there might be different final values, but not always, and rushing to always use that any time someone dislikes something is so god-damn weak.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he's so bad that over 500 million people have tuned in to watch his shows. He should be burned at the stake using all of his scripts as kindling.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
i'd lol again

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
No, but what he did to Arthur Conan Doyle should at least earn him a seat in a live-action version of Rowan Atkinson's "Welcome to Hell." :-)

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's a ridiculous notion, even jokingly. Don't like it? Don't watch it. It isn't anything he needs to be punished for. It's an adaptation.

What? I didn't say his scripts should be burnt, or what the fuck ever.

I just said he's not very good at writing, and I don't think he is, and I seriously can't believe you're appealing to the old "Lots of people watch his shows, therefore he's beyond criticism" thing. Seriously? Seriously? SERIOUSLY? Come on, do I even need to respond to that?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
If you feel you don't need to respond to this, then why did you?

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't feel the need to respond to the argument.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
saying you aren't responding is still responding

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not interested in Moffat's shows or Moffat himself, but you really can't judge a work by its popularity. Michael Bay movies about exploding robots who say "bitch" a lot made a shitload of money at the box office. That doesn't mean they're well-written.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
Twilight made assloads of money. Two And A Half Men made and makes an assload of money. Dan Brown makes an assload of money. You don't have to look far to find things that are terrible that make assloads of money.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok, I think for Dan Brown there's a good explanation why his works became so popular. People plain and simply thought they were based on evidence and the Catholic Church wasn't thrilled either.
Stuff like that usually leads to some kind of hype.

But I will never understand the popularity of TAAHM or Twilight.
