I've been writing back and forth and fandom friends with these two people for awhile. I consider them friends. I just found out that one *just* turned 18 and the other is only 20. I am 30 and now I feel like a creepy perv even though there is nothing we talk about that's inappropriate or weird.

I know I'm over reacting but I can't help but think a little bit that this friendship is inappropriate with such an age difference and them being so young. They are barely legal! Am I just being dumb about this or does anyone else understand this pov?

I also wonder if *they* are now doubting - thinking I'm some sad old person or something. Basically I just wish nobody shared their ages and I could have gone on in blissful ignorance. My squee has been squashed.

I sort of understand your POV but you're still being dumb about this. I've met incredibly mature 18 year olds and 30 year olds who act 12. Even though they're younger than you, they're still adults and if you were having fun talking to them before then you're clearly able to relate to them so I don't see why you should let their ages ruin it

Most of my fandom friends are either 10+ years older or younger than me. It's never been an issue for any of us but sometimes I do have a little trouble relating to some of their experiences. It's actually really cool because we can talk about that stuff and I have a new appreciation for something that I might not have even thought about.

I understand where you're coming from but you're focusing too much on age. For me I just try and forget the age thing and just go on like I was before I had that information.

The only exception is when I find out people are under 18. It may not be fair to them but if you're underage I shy away from interacting.

Actually I tend to fret more about the others finding out my age (I'm generally older than most fandom friends) rather than the other way around. I feel like there is a lot of "too old for fandom" bias and when people find out you're an ~adult~ suddenly they think it's weird.

It's kinda ridiculous tbh. They may be young but give young adults some credit in that they know what a friendship entails. They're not underage, so it's a bit patronizing that they'd assume pervertness out of nowhere just because of your age.

eh, neither of them are underage so who cares. Adults mix across a range of ages

Now if they 16 like the girl I've been chatting to is (that was woah unwelcome surprise as we've discussed adult things and woah putting space on those kinda topics)
