A++ picture choice!

Mostly wanted to say that, but I kind of agree.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
This is an exceptionally adorable picture, OP.

I think this is true, but I honestly wouldn't expect fans to wait.

After I watched Vincent and the Doctor, I immediately hopped on FaceBook (I didn't have a Tumblr and was actively against getting one at that point) and wrote a long rant about it in my notes. I was just so overwhelmed by how I felt after it that I had to talk to somebody about it.

That's not how 'feels' work, and fandom runs on feels, not patience and cold calculated logic.

But who says it has to be strictly divided into either "feels" or "cold hard calculated logic"? Feels can totally survive for ages after marinating a while.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Not for a lot of people. It's not unusual for excitement to die down if you wait awhile; other stuff comes along to occupy your attention. You can still have 'feels' over something long after it loses its new status but it's not the same thing anymore.

This secret reads like fandom policing tbh. There is no indication that people actually believe a fandom explosion right after something airs is better, that's just how excitement works.

DA

You can still have 'feels' over something long after it loses its new status but it's not the same thing anymore.

Really? What's the difference? I'm generally a logical person, and I tend to need time to process large bursts of emotion to figure out what they are, to get a grip on what exactly it is I'm feeling. My initial reaction to emotionally exciting or shocking things will usually be either surface-blank-over-undefined-emotion or surface-anger-over-undefined-emotion (depending on what happened), and I need a while to figure out what's actually happening underneath that. Is that a different thing from 'feels', then?

Not sarcasm, by the way. I'm just not sure of the terminology.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
In my experience, "feels" = "OMGSQUEEE!!!! I am so excited and my cup of enthusiasm runneth over!" That sort of feeling fades with time and analysis, even if the passionate enjoyment underlying it doesn't.

Discussing new material when you're still on the first waves of excitement makes for a great fandom experience for some people. It's okay if you don't feel that way, but would you begrudge other fans a harmless high, and participating the way they want to?

yeah really! Neither you nor the other people are doing it wrong, OP, you're just doing it differently.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally agree.

Must admit, I've regretted things I've posted in the heat of the moment post-episode but the collective euphoria of a positive fandom experience is too amazing to miss out on!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-16 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. When I've just finished watching something, I want to talk about it NOW, not later.

That's why most places have party posts/chats, so people can avoid them if they like.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
If it bothers you, don't do it.
If it bothers you that other people do it, tough shit. You don't get to say how fans behave as fans.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I just love that picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-06-15 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
AWWWWWW, that pic! D'awwwwwwww.
Sorry, I think you have a point, but D'awwwwwwwwww.

Awww, the picture reminds me of that scene in Bridesmaids where one character was driving by with a shitload of Golden Retriever puppies in the back of her car. You can never have enough puppies.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)

Some people like to liveblog and to write reaction fic. But that doesn´t stop other people from writing meta and character study fic after they´ve analyzed the episode. Just read what you enjoy.

That many dogs can't fit comfortably in the back of that car.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-17 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know whether it's an option for that model of car, but is it the kind you can fold down or remove the back seats? When you can do that with a bigger van, there's plenty of space for dogs to move around. My family used to work with rescue greyhounds, and shortly after we joined the group that seat came out, never to return.

[Picture of a car parked in a snowy placed. A man opens the trunk/boot and a bunch of medium-sized fluffy yellowish dogs come out. It is adorable.]

I dislike the way fans feel the need to make a stir in fandom over recently-aired episodes ASAP, all in flood as if getting in reaction posts/fic/wank makes them better. It would help you guys a lot to take some time to digest and mull over episodes before posting your reactions.

That is the best image you could have chosen for this secret.
