OP, I hope you've had a thorough exam to make sure it's not being caused by fibroids or endometriosis? Are you on a oral contraceptive right now and think the patch would be better, or are you looking just to go straight on the patch? Whichever the case, sometimes it's a lot of trial and error with what works best for someone with this-I had it during my teen years and I was put on a certain dose of birth control to help. I also had a thyroid problem later in life that made it flare up again-hormones fluctuating and all that jazz-so definitely do not be afraid about asking for something you think would help, asking for any additional testing, and if one method doesn't work, keep trying for another. Good luck! <3

Seconding all of this.

And, OP, I was TERRIFIED of side effects for taking BC, because I had terrible experiences with Triphasil and Provera. But I'm on a progestin only pill right now (Camila) and it is great. I'm not 'cured' but it makes things manageable, without being dull or zombiefied. (Also because I have more energy and confidence, I've lost weight!) It's worth trying, I promise!

SECONDING THIS SO MUCH
obviously not everybody has the same experience but mine is identical to this

I was thinking about going on the patch because I have trouble swallowing pills. I probably just need more practice at it but I've never been able to master it because my throat just screams NO and closes up. I've never been on birth control before and the patch sounded like it might be an easier option for me at the time I wrote the secret.
I went to a doctor for it once a while back, which is when I got diagnosed, but they never did a full exam. I am thinking about going to the doctor again soon though. :/

I have an unbelievably hard time swallowing pills, too. This is the method I've settled on that works best for me -

1. get something to drink that's really cold (I have to use soda or a fruit juice because it has to be a thicker liquid for me).
2. take a big drink of the liquid but don't swallow it right away.
3. put the pill in your mouth and swallow the liquid. if it's thick/cold enough, your throat doesn't notice the pill!

This is really late, but I hope you will see it anyway, I used to be on this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexplanon

It is slightly expensive, but it does last for 3 years, and during that time I had my period like 3 times so there is that?

My trick for swallowing pills is this: once you've put the pill on your tongue, rest the lip of the glass on the tip of your tongue to hold it down as you swallow the water. It helped keep my gag reflex from triggering.

And please go see a doctor again!
