If you're to the point where you can't hold a job, I would say just go for the birth control, you don't have much to loose. I've never taken it, but if you're a slave to your period like that, I can't imagine the side effects would be any worse. If you are able to talk to a doctor about it, I would urge you to do so as soon as possible, and if your current doctor is the one whole told you you can't do birth control forever or that you should just "lady up," I'm pretty sure they're wrong, and you should consider getting a second opinion.

And you've probably heard of Midol before, but on the off chance you haven't and want to try another pain pill, it works wonders for me. I get bad back pain and fatigue throughout by period, in addition to terrible cramps for a couple of days, and Midol gets those pretty much completely gone within 30 mins after I take it.
