Yup, they made sure she was on a bus to Vermont first. The episode's on youtube, I've seen it several times, check it out if you want.

And the matter was brought up too - Shawn was really adamant to Cory beforehand about not saying anything to the police, (which he wasn't portrayed as completely right about because the girl wasn't planning on *ever* telling the police and he was going to do whatever she asked him to do) and the girl was afraid of what would happen if the police got involved.

Also, after the girl had left, Cory's parents pointed out that now that she was safe for the time being, this was the time that they had to go to the police, because once the dad got the girl back, she would be in even more trouble.

(Believe it or not, these episodes are usually very well-researched according to the professional wisdom of their time, so that the producers/network don't get in trouble for giving bad advice).

THIS. I was extremely impressed by the Very Special Episode of Dif'frent Strokes "The Bicycle Shop" because of the clarifications they put in at the end. They managed to very briefly clarify the basic information on what pedophilia is and is not, and most impressively, they didn't resort to scare tactics and monster-making, if you know what I mean. They just said "Look, this is what this person is. He doesn't want to kill you or kidnap you. His behavior is not acceptable, though, so we're going to get him some help so he doesn't do anything he isn't supposed to."

man I wish there had been shows on the air like that when I was a kid. I didn't recognize what was being done to me at my school because he worked there - he wasn't a stranger luring me into a van with candy - he was the kind of 'trusted adult' those shows seemed to stress as baseline safety.
