Not to mention how Roxas acted towards Namine. I mean, damn. Kairi cries while she's drawing the paopu fruit to her and Sora. If there is an endgame romantic pairing, it's going to be those two.

doesn't the fruit just mean you'll always find each other/come back to each other? like obviously that has romantic implications, but not necessarily, especially given the friendship thing

You're right, just as it is it doesn't have to be romantic. The implications clearly were in KH1, which is why Sora/Kairi wouldn't be surprising, but BBS kind of moved toward making them a symbol of friendship, given the wayfinders' design based off them.

Wouldn't surprise me if SE really did have all 3 of them share a paopu to show all their destinies are intertwined.
