Out of all the TV show finales you've ever seen, which one is your favorite and why?

I mean the actual final finale, as in the last episode ever, not one of the season finales. However, for shows that had a finale and were only later uncancelled (e.g., Futurama), the first finale can count.

(Yes, I know that in Britain the season finale is called the series finale, but you know what I'm talking about).

The Young Ones. Hilarious, and ensured there'd never be any crappy reunion gimmick.

Blackadder. No contest.

Most of the time the series I've watched didn't have much of a finale, because they were canceled and were expecting to continue, or the writing just wasn't that good anymore.

Oh, Blackadder.

There's a part of me that's still sitting in front of a TV screen somewhere, waiting for the joke.

Star Trek: The Next Generation (All Good Things). M*A*S*H (Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen). Malcolm in the Middle (Graduation). Scrubs (My Finale). Futurama (The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings).

I might be forgetting something, but nothing's coming to mind.

(Also, cheating because it doesn't really count as my favorite seeing as how I was neutral towards the show, but the Everybody Loves Raymond finale was pretty much a perfect sitcom finale.)

Babylon 5 "Sleeping in Light"

It's my fave because even though it was written a full year before the show ended, it still fits perfectly. A testament to the work that went into the whole thing.

Pushing Daisies. A lot of people hated it but I loved that it was a sort of 'fuck you' while also just tying every single loose end up and Happy Ending for everyone. If you've got to go that's the way to do it.

Angel. I hated some of the decisions (why Wesley, why?) but I just felt that was such a fitting proper ending for the series. Just really worked for me.

While I wish that Pushing Daisies had more space to tie things up, I'm glad they did what they did. It was clear that they were told they were cancelled, but wanted to make sure that the characters had happy endings and that they tied up loose ends for the viewers. It was nice, albeit frustrating (because of the cancellation).

I love that the final line in Angel is, ""I don't know about you, but I kinda want to slay the dragon." (Go to black) It was such a fitting, "Go get 'em, guys" line that I ignore the series continuation of the comics. For me, the show ended when the show ended.

Yup, this is me too. Don't care about the comics it ended with that line. :)

Futurama got canceled again, lol. The final finale is going to be about Fry and Leela's wedding.

The Newhart Show. I disliked the show itself, but the last five minutes of the finale was a fucking masterpiece.

Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Monk. Solid story, we FINALLY find out the truth of what happened to Trudy and why, and although it doesn't bring her back (and it's quite a ride along the way), there's a nice surprise that makes his life a lot brighter. Also contained a scene that made me go "holy crap, I have never agreed with a fictional character so much in my entire life."

Ugly Betty had a good finale.

LOST was a beautiful, crazy mess, and it remained that way until the very end. However, the end, where Jack is dying and Vincent lies down next to him and he sees the plane fly overhead was perfectly bittersweet. I even liked the church scene, too.

Does the Peacekeeper Wars miniseries for Farscape count as the finale? Because that's my favorite if so.

Overall the show just did a good job of introducing a multi-season arc that never felt rushed nor dragged out, and they managed to create a finale that amply wrapped up the majority of the plot threads introduced while not tying off every single thing with a bright red bow and - in general - stayed true to the theme and feel of the series. It was definitely the finale that's left me feeling the most satisfied. Ever.

Scrubs, where JD walks out of the Hospital for the final time and sees a montage of what might be (and we all assume does happen) and it's adorable and bittersweet and I cry like a fucking baby.

It doesn't fully count, but I really love Community's season 3 finale, Introduction to Finality. It was written and filmed when everyone was pretty sure the show was gonna get cancelled. It really brought the characters full circle and ended the show on a strong note that future seasons just won't be able to recreate (especially now that Chevy's gone).

Chuck had, like, 6 episodes that were written as if the show wasn't going to continue, and I loved all of them
