"Family" and "Fuck" Both Start with "F"

This is one of those moments where I realize that I hate my goddamn motherfucking bitch-ass "immediate" family.

My father is a racist idiot. He thinks that everyone who is "liberal" (quotes because he uses it as a pejorative) and who votes Democratic is non-white, and he bitches about our state by noting that our Puerto Rican population has gone up recently. FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE

My mother thinks that I am an extension of her. I must like the things that she likes. I must do the things that she does. My interests and hers must align exactly. If they do not, then it is because I am selfish, and not because I'm a separate fucking human being. For my birthday, she gets me things that she wants. It's really quite wonderful, because if I don't like it, then she perks up and says, "well, I'll take it, then!" FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE.

My father-in-law is a racist fundamentalist Christian who would disown my husband and I if he found out that we are not Christian. He openly hates black people and rants about how the EBIL ATHEISTS are destroying America. FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE.

My step mother-in-law is also a racist fundamentalist Christian, with the added bonus that she has mastered the art of manipulating the fuck out of people so that she can get her way. She doesn't give a shit about anyone but herself. FUCK YOU, ASSHOLE.

Fucking christ. I just hope that later generations are better about not being assholes, but this sucks a whole heck of a lot.

Who else is less-than-thrilled with his/her family composition? Let it the fuck out, F!S. Get that shit off your chest.

My father is abusive. Mostly emotionally, with a side helping of smashing my property and shoving me around.

My mother is an alcoholic. She refuses to talk to me because when I left home, I made her Dad's main target again.

My brother is an ass, but actually isn't all that bad. He's grown up, stopped smoking, is doing a course, has a job, and we get on. He used to be a lot worse, I guess?

My youngest brother is sweet with a helping of bratty, but I can't talk to him now because he feels obligated to tell Dad if I contact him and I don't want him getting in trouble. Maybe when he's older.

My larger extended family are very very religious. My family is not. I'm the eldest child of our generation, and the majority of them would not know my name because I am a bastard child of a marriage ten years apart.

The one aunt who remains in contact won't have anything to do with me now I've 'disrespected' my father by being kicked out by him. She knows and full admits he's abusive.

... Man, that's just depressing. I need a hug.

DA, who survived abusive, drug-addicted, mentally ill dad's suicide and is trying to drag depressed, drug-addicted, alcoholic, seriously ill, doctor-and-dentist-phobic mother to the doctor, dentist, and therapist before her health problems and addictions get her fired and she loses her health care... Do internet hugs count? 'Cause *hugs.* (I can't imagine losing contact with extended family for 'disrespecting' an abusive parent. That's awful.)

That entire side of my family is very much rooted in 'traditional' values which is where this aunt's 'respect your family even if they make you want to kill yourself' attitude comes from. It does not make it any better.

It was nice to have a vent down here where not many people will see it, though. *Hugs* for you too, anon. I hope your mum gets help soon.

This makes me feel a lot better about my own family. I'll lend some of them to ya if you want! They're still kind of on the fundamentalist side, but nowhere near abusive. They always say supportive things and show evidence of being somewhat open-minded. Plus my dad gets me geeky things for my birthday. I'm sure he wouldn't mind being lent out!

On a slightly more serious note, big hugs for you and I hope you and your spouse can cut off contact with all of them if that's a thing you decide to do.
