Yeah, cosplay as a hobby has been both good and bad for that. On the one hand, it's the one thing I've ever done in my life where physical appearance actually matters, and the fact that I'm lacking in that department is therefore a problem for the first time ever. (I occasionally have days where I look at my pics from cons and get depressed by how everyone else looks so awesome and I'm so ugly, and wonder if this is what a lot of females feel like all the time...?) On the other hand, learning to apply makeup properly and dress to hide my body type and so on means that I can look at least presentable when I want to make an effort.

But generally, I don't, because what I look like doesn't matter AT ALL in any other thing I'm doing in my life (I mean, as for work, I do web dev either in a cube in a passcode-locked building, or telecommuting from home, so I don't even have to look good for my job). Just cosplay.

Therefore I will take intelligence and creativity and so on hands down. It's far more useful (and keeps my life interesting) on a daily basis. :D It was hilarious at my old job when I had to deal with some kids who were misbehaving and they were like "Well, you're UGLY!" And I just went "Yep, what's your point?" and they had nothing to say. :D
