Is having your pets join you in your new place at some time an option? i know that's not always a possibility :(

No, it isn't. :( I'm living on campus, and will be for the next few years. Besides, they belong to the whole family. It would be unfair of me to just take them away. (They're also pretty old, and might not adjust well to a new environment...et cetera, et cetera.)
