Hey, seriously, if you do your research well and you don't treat those disorders you're drawing ideas from as a tack-on accessory? Go you for taking an interest. I have built a character around the symptoms of PTSD before, I don't think there's anything wrong with building off a particular disorder for a character base.

It's when people talk about 'lol, this character is so autistic' and 'omg, I must be bipolar hee' as if it's some kind of trendy damn thing and not a real serious disorder that pisses me off. And I think that's what the OP was meaning about people misusing disorders in fandom and thinking that wiki knows everything.

The people who don't bother to do any serious research and just talk about it like Autism or PTSD are hats that looks nice of a particular character.

But really, if you take the subject matter seriously, ILU. <3

To be honest, I don't know where I lie in terms of how seriously I portray their illnesses, but I certainly don't joke around about it, which I guess makes it decent.

Agreed. The OP, from what I can tell, meant people who say, "oh, so and so collects odd things, HE IS AUTISTIC LOL." Or "so and so writes suicide poems SHE IS BIPOLAR LOL." If you actually research a disorder, then it is fine.
