Something of the opposite happened with me. I have Asperger's (been diagnosed for 10+ years), and Juudai of Yu-Gi-Oh GX had all the symptoms I have, only magnified. I pointed this out, pretty much everyone dismissed it as "shounen protagonist syndrome". I've never seen a shounen protagonist that reminded me so much of myself as Juudai did (he was just more cheerful than me; I kind of envy him for that).

*shifty eyes* At least I have the excuse that I didn't just read the symptoms off Wikipedia...?
