This is one of the first times that I actually have the game the same time as my friends got it. I am insanely flaily over that. But the fact it is animal crossing I'm guessing you can buy it a year from now and still find people. Heck you can still find people playing Wide World and City Folk.

I hear you, OP. I probably should have saved up for a 3DS earlier anticipating everyone's excitement for this game! I get insanely jealous when I hear everyone talking about it, but at least AC is a kind of game where there's something to do no matter what time of year it is (different bugs, fish, events, etc). So unless all of your friends are time-travelling like crazy, I'm sure you'll meet up with them!

Several of my tumblr/RL friends have been the same way, so I feel you OP. I'm pretty much behind the curve on every video game that comes out, just due to the time and money usually involved. It's kind of frustrating, knowing I'll never be in that loop of gaming together, but I've sort of come to accept it.

They're not my friends just because of current video games played just within days of their release. So during times like these, I focus on the other things that bring us together, remember that the craze - like all crazes - will pass, and treat the whole thing like an interactive Let's Play where they're the one with the game and I sort of listen in from time to time.

This game is all my Twitter friends are tweeting about. I want to play with them, but it'll take me a while to get the console and the game, and I'm afraid they'll have lost interest by the time I catch up to them...

In my experience Animal Crossing is a game that sticks around for a long time and people will play it for months on end. I hope that you're able to play with your friends soon. (I'm waiting for my copy to come in the mail and the wait is making me nuts!)

Gah, I have some friends in the same boat and I don't do twitter or tumblr, but I do occasionally update my FB to tell my friends my town is open etc. I try not to be too flaily about it in front of my friends who don't have the system.

But the nice thing about AC is that it's at its best if you take it slow. I've joked that it's "Delayed Gratification: The Game". It's a game that pays off when you linger, and you can enjoy seasonal events and stuff- so with any luck your friends will still be playing (although perhaps a little less often???) when you get yours.

When I have newbie friends join a game like this though- I like to give them presents. :3 Maybe your friends will do that same?
