Better answer

Misandry is a problem in tumblr feminism. However, tumblr feminism doesn't appear to have much to do with feminism at all.

Unfortunately, MRAs ("Men's Rights Activists")* are basically bizarro social justice warriors. They are just as bad, but happen to be stanning for men rather than women. I use the term "stanning" because let's face it, tumblr activism is really a form of fandom. So the MRA vs SJW fight is really just a bullshit fandom pissing contest you shouldn't get involved with.

Basically, your partner might be reading someone who's full of shit. That's not your partner's fault, as a lot of these things look reasonable until you descend down the rabbit hole. MRAs will go from a sensible statement like "sex crimes against men are underreported and the butt of jokes, that's bad" straight into "therefore sex crimes against women really aren't disproportional at all, LOL stop complaining about being raped, ladies."

*This is distinct from people who care about men's issues, which are important. I'm talking specifically about those who call themselves MRAs.

That really sums it up right there. I'd even go so far as to say most of internet feminism doesn't have much to do with feminism at all but that may be too broad a stroke.

Someone likes my theory! : D

But it's true. They seem to function the same. Pretend the Civil Rights Movement is Supernatural and move forward from there.

I really wish "Social Justice Fanbrat" had been the term to take off, not "Social Justice Warrior". It is a bizarre outgrowth of fandom, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that!
