My niece likes Tinkerbell, too...those aren't bad. But, oooh, the Barbie. ;_;

I miss when she had the Bambi on constant repeat.

They are horrible! Tinkerbell is a stone cold bitch. Not a cheery protagonist.

She straight up wanted to kill wendy.

Though if you do have them share the same canon, it's fun to speculate what turns her into what she becomes by the time she's with Peter.

I mean, what would happen to your disposition if you ended up falling in love with a prepubescent child fifty times your size?

I love the PP book *so* much. It's so creepy and bloody and horrifying. :)

Oh geeze, Peter Pan is a freaking terrifying sociopath. Like, legitimately scary, old school fairy-type creature. The lost boys have to pretend they've had supper for days to not invoke his wrath. The flight to Neverland took several days and he kept FORGETTING the Darlings were even there. He is horrifying.

(That said, there was a certain element of charming darkness in the primary Tinkerbell book Disney put out. The one by Gail Carson Levine. IIRC, they make a big deal of pointing out exactly what happens when a kid says "I don't believe in fairies"--and that it can happen at any time, with no warning whatsoever. And later in the book, they leave a fairy to guard something and it gets stolen because, well, she dies in sudden, horrifying, abrupt agony because some kid just decided to unmake her, y'know? And they all pretty much fly around with the knowledge that one day it'll be them. That was darker than I expected.)

YES! Omg. I had to write a fic using Neverland as the base for it because - Peter is just...totally oblivious to everyone around him as far as their comfort or needs or anything goes. So creepy.

Omg, that sounds...chillingly horrible. :)

Sounds like it's time to pull my copy out and give it another shot. (I tried to read it as a kid and was horribly bored, but the prepubescent sociopath angle might do the trick.)

In the original treatment of Fables, the Adversary was going to turn out to be Peter Pan.

His dark military expansion was pretty much the means to an end: he wanted more children (and when you approach it pragmatically, it makes sense: war is a great way to get orphans, who'd have less motivation to ever leave again). Hook was actually a protagonist, long since reformed in the face of the darkness he beheld and now trying to save children from this crazy immortal bastard.

Obviously they went a different route but... if you read the original book, you can totally see this.

Y'know, I've seen the first two Tinkerbell movies and I gotta say...I think they're pretty nifty. With the second one I even remember thinking that the animation and visual pacing was very well done, especially considering it was just a CG straight-to-video thing. The characters are charming and fun. And best of all, Tinkerbell is sparkly and a pretty fairy and all those fun girly things--but she's also basically an engineer. And that's her passion. And I think that's a pretty cool thing for little girls to watch.

...

I'm still kinda pissed off that for the big playset, Disney went with a Tinkerbell kitchen set instead of a cute fairy workbench where kids could "fix" acorn teapots and stuff.

Yesssssss! Engineer Tink is an awesome thing.
