My friend is becoming a BNF

And...it bothers me. We're fandom-friends almost exclusively, and we started out by bonding over our fic being ignored it our original fandom (Harry Potter, if it matters). We've jumped fandoms three or four times since, but while I maintain a level of semi-obscurity (except for the original fandom, interestingly enough) she keeps getting more and more fans. Her fics are averaging 300+ comments and getting recced everywhere these days, while mine might get 10 comments in the same fandom.

I'm going mad with jealousy here, and now that I'm jumping fandoms again (to The Avengers) I just want her to stay away. I must be the worst friend in the world.

...Idk, I guess kinda? I'm in a similar position [though my friend is in the quasi-space between being fandom friends and *friend* friends], but...if you like her fics and she likes yours, maybe you could ask if she'd be willing to maybe rec a couple of your stories that she likes to her fans? I know that might be something you're not comfortable with but it could help in that it gives you more readers.

Or, if you're not willing to do that [and, again, like her writing/characterization] ask if she'd be willing to beta that in a fandom you're both members of and see what happens.

Take heart, you both write fanfiction so you all's stories suck. At least you two still have that in common.

A normal reaction (I get jealous of my friends all the time, especially in shared fandoms. I turn it into a persoanl competition of improvement. sometimes I'm the better known, sometimes they're the better known), but you must remember it is not her fault and in the long run what matters more - your individual comments/views count or your friendship?

You need to take a breather OP, the fact you're going mad with jealousy is...is you need some perspective y'know? She's not going to be taking viewers away from you whether she's there or not. :C

*pats* Try to back up a little maybe? I'd hate for your friendship to feel strained over such a thing that NEITHER OF YOU have control over. It's not that important!
