Alternative medicine in general just pisses me off because 99.9% is utter bullshit and yet people buy into it anyway and then stuff like this happens.

Newsflash: if there really were some magical holistic way to cure cancer, people wouldn't still be dying of cancer.

Ugh, so much this.

Nuh uh! Big pharma don't want to cure cancer because they get rich off cancer treatments! Only brave souls defy their sinister control and try to find the real -- oh god I can't even finish.

What always gets me is the always - ALWAYS - say something like 'follow the money!'

'You mean the steady flow of money going from sucker's pockets to yours?'

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's often the suckers who are saying it.
comma_chameleon: (Jin is usually invalid.)

And considering how many cancer treatments are funded by the drug companies themselves via 'compassionate use' programs, this logic doesn't even begin to make sense. (In Canada at least anyway.)

Acupressure and acupuncuture actually works, though.

(Anonymous) 2013-06-18 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, but they don't cure cancer.
(reply from suspended user)
starphotographs: (Stein (being earnestly pedantic))

I don't remember exactly where (it's probably highly Googleable), but I read a while ago that acupuncture can work for certain kinds of pain by creating a small endorphin rush.

...Buuuuuuuut it doesn't matter where they poke you. Because that part is hooey. And it's a moot point because taking a pill is better than getting poked.

Herbal remedies can work, but then distillation of the chemicals involved takes place in Western medicine too.

Fetishising Chinese medicine is a form of subtle racism.
