I'd be way too freaking embarrassed to do that, though I don't really think I have anything particularly embarrassing on there. I was embarrassed when my parents saw my amazon wish list, but I did get several "what is that?" and "Why do you want that?" questions so that might have something to do with it.

I have RL friends and relatives, who follow my LJ, so if she has the same she could be putting the wishlist on there for them - i.e. people who might want to buy her birthday presents anyway.

I did this same thing. Plus it's there for ME to remember, too... I barely spend any time shopping on Amazon so when I'm asked for my wishlist I have the button really closeby so I click and send. (also it's a really small button, I've SENT people to my profile to find it and they didn't see it so obviously it's not this huge tack offensive horrible thing)

I mostly keep an Amazon wishlist to keep track of prices and make sure something hasn't gone out of print. I only really give it out near the end of the year before my birthday/Christmas when people ask, but to each their own.

Boo hoo. She's not pressuring anyone into buying her stuff, it's just UP THERE. In fact most people who have that sort of thing up only put it there for self-reference or if it's requested a lot. It's just convenient. And I've seen Amazon buttons... they're tiny and inoffensive and you're just looking for a reason to look down on this person.

(though now I want Amazon to come out with a button that's, like, 500x300 with the words in bright neon "BUY ME STUFF UNLESS YOU JUST DON'T LOVE ME WHICH IS FINE I GUESS BUT I THOUGHT WE HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL" and it fucking sparkles and shit)

Yeah, that's why me and several of my LJ friends had such links on our LJ, and I'm always relieved when Christmas is acoming around and I see their wishlist has been updated (we do tend to forget it)...
That would be weird to put on a fanfic board account, but a personal LJ? I don't see the problem. Some people really have *personal* LJ, that they also happen to us for fandom.

Woah you are petty OP, it's just a wish list. it might be there for them to find easily, for IRL friends, for family, for OL friends they're close to, significant others, because it's fun to show people the books you own/want to own, a multitude reasons that may or may not include them hoping a follower will buy it which has nothing to do with you if some one does buy them something off the wishlist

The only part I suspect is true is the first line, the rest is you being an extremely judgmental prick
